How do I report a repair?Click the ‘report a repair’ button and provide a brief description about your repair and when you would like the repair to be undertaken. All repairs should be reported through our online service that's available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Login or Register here.
-
How are repairs prioritised? Our priority timescales for carrying out repairs make it possible for us to provide an excellent level of service across all homes. After reviewing your report, we will set a priority timescale for your repair to be delivered. These priority timescales allow us to ensure a greater certainty that we will be able to deliver the service within the agreed priorities.
-
What if I miss my appointment? You should always let us know immediately if you need to cancel or change an appointment. You will need to notify us by 8AM for a morning appointment or 12noon for an afternoon appointment. If you don't tell us that you won't be in and are not at home for your repair appointment, we will charge you £10. We look at each case individually and there may be exceptions to this charge if the appointment was missed due to an emergency.
-
What should I expect when repairs are carried out in my home?If we need you to move any furniture or remove any floor covering, such as carpets or laminate, we will give you seven days warning. It is your responsibility to do this before the contractor arrives. Please contact us if you are having difficulty arranging this. We regret that we are unable to undertake any work in your home without an adult present. We have a safeguarding policy and will not be able to work in a property where there is an unaccompanied child. You need to make sure that everyone is safe while repair workers are working. For example, keep any pets out of the way, and keep an eye on your children. In bad weather conditions we will always make things safe, but repair workers may not be able to carry out a full repair. This is for their own safety. All our staff and contractors are expected to be considerate and respectful towards you. We expect you and members of your household to behave in a similar way towards them.

Are there any costs or fees to join as a customer?Use of the Service is free for Homeowners. After the technical specification has been agreed, the customer will make a small deposit to us in order to take their project to tender stage. However, this payment does not come as an additional cost to the customer as it is removed from the overall project value paid to the Trade Business selected for your project. After reviewing our tender evaluation, the customer will then select a contractor that they wish to award the project to. We will then charge the customer a small percentage of the project value for our efforts. However, this will also be deducted from the amount paid to the Trade Business assigned to your project. Therefore, there is no cost for homeowners using our service. Nonetheless, if a homeowner does decide not to proceed any further with our service after their project has already been put out to tender, then the customer will lose their full deposit.

How do you vet prospective members? All our framework contractors have been competitively procured, they have evidenced the appropriate level of insurance cover, industry accreditations, qualifications, references, financial stability, and commitment to health & safety. To pass our vetting procedure we request the following from our suppliers: Qualifications - we require proof that the applicant is qualified to undertake their chosen profession Insurance - we require proof that they hold Public Liability and combined insurance if they employ people. Proof of address - we require proof of the company’s trading address in the form of a utility bill or credit check, dependant on the type of company. Identification - we require photo identification (passport, driver’s licence etc). Experience - we look at length of experience, the company’s history and obtain references Financial Standing - we perform a Credit Check on applicants to check their banking records to endure financial stability of contractors. Contractor service is constantly measured against key performance indicators to ensure our customers receive the highest standards of service, at commercially competitive rates. This ensures that any contractor risk is minimised, and only competent contractors can bid for your projects.
-
How do I receive quotes on a like for like basis for comparison?Compare & Build will produce a high level professional specification detailing your project requirements, this specification will be provided to all contractors for quotation. The same requirements should be specified to each of the contractors to ensure they price on a like for like basis. For example, if you are having a kitchen replaced, you should advise each contractor which brand, type and the number of appliances you require including worktop type such as marble, granite, ceramic, laminated etc. this will ensure that the contractors all price based on the standard.
-
Do you guarantee the quality of your suppliers’ work? Our suppliers/contractors remain independent businesses responsible for the work they each carry out. It is not possible for us to guarantee the quality of our members’ work or approve them as a trading association would. What we can guarantee is that Compare&Build members are recommended, vetted, and monitored. They pledge to uphold to our standard, this keeps the substandard trades away, the standard of work high, and each business accountable for its performance.
-
Do you remove unsatisfactory members?Yes we do. In the unlikely event that a business falls short of our Standard, its membership will be suspended. The reason that the vast majority of our contractors and services work to a high standard is that our initial vetting is stringent, and the monitoring process puts their reputation and future work on the line.
